A Community Conversation on Women’s Well-being and Advocacy

Join us on Saturday, March 21, from 9-11 am for a thoughtful discussion and an opportunity to connect with community leaders committed to advancing women’s well-being across Northern Virginia. This community conversation, hosted by JLNV in partnership with George Mason University Gender and Policy Center, will bring together local elected officials, researchers, and community members for a thoughtful panel discussion about the realities women face every day — and the policies and community solutions that can help support them.

Following the panel, participants will move into interactive breakout discussions, where attendees will connect, share experiences, and explore practical ideas for strengthening support systems for women across our region focused on the daily pressures many women experience around mental overload, caregiving, invisible labor, and economic strain.

This event is free and open to the public. Space is limited, advance registration is required. Secure your free ticket here. Light breakfast (pastries, coffee & tea) will be provided.

Getting to Van Metre Hall:

  • Garage Parking is available for a fee at Van Metre Parking Garage, Founders Way North, Arlington, 22226. (No street number provided)
  • Metro access is a 5 minute walk from Van Metre Hall at Virginia Square – GMU which is serviced by Silver and Orange Metro lines.

Past Events

The Junior League of Northern Virginia hosted a powerful morning of connection, reflection, and inspiration focused on how women can reduce stress, avoid burnout, and truly thrive.

Held on Saturday, November 15 at the Lyon Park Community Center in Arlington, the event brought together women from across Northern Virginia to explore the pressures women face today—from balancing careers and caregiving to navigating financial responsibilities and societal expectations. Through thoughtful conversation and shared experiences, attendees opened the dialogue on releasing the pressure of “doing it all” and replacing it with community, clarity, and self-compassion.

Guests enjoyed a meaningful breakfast experience featuring guest speaker Dr. Vickye Hayter, as well as interactive activities designed to encourage reflection and connection. Participants created vision boards, took part in a “Pass the Wisdom” book exchange, and engaged in guided exercises focused on gratitude and personal well-being.

Together, the event helped foster a culture where women’s mental well-being is prioritized, responsibilities are shared, and no one feels like they have to navigate life’s challenges alone.
