Nene Spivy Recognized as a 2025 40 Over 40 Honoree by The Association of Junior Leagues International

McLean, Virginia – April 28, 2025 – The Junior League of Northern Virginia is honored that Nene Spivy has been named one of the distinguished recipients of The Association of Junior Leagues International’s (AJLI) inaugural 40 Over 40 Award. This recognition celebrates outstanding Junior League Members who have demonstrated exceptional leadership, impact, and service in their careers and communities.

Selected from among 297 Junior Leagues across six countries, Nene Spivy was recognized as a dedicated champion for science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education. For the past 15 years, Nene has served as chief executive officer of the Northern Virginia Science Center Foundation, a nonprofit started 20 years ago as a signature project of the Junior League of Northern Virginia to create a hands-on, interactive STEM-focused museum.

As a dedicated member of the Junior League of Northern Virginia, Nene Spivy has been committed to empowering others, driving positive change, and creating a lasting impact in our Northern Virginia community. She has been leading the charge to bring STEM resources to the region, first by opening the Children’s Science Center Lab in 2015 while working to build a larger full-scale museum, the Northern Virginia Science Center, which just broke ground last month.

“I am incredibly grateful for this recognition and for the opportunity to serve alongside so many inspiring women,” said Nene Spivy. “Thanks to the training and experiences provided by the Junior League of Northern Virginia and Association of Junior Leagues International, I’ve gained significant nonprofit management skills that I’ve combined with my technology and business expertise to focus on the critical need for STEM education. As a result, we are giving youth in our region far greater access and opportunities to succeed in a world that is rapidly requiring STEM skills in every job.”

The 2025 40 Over 40 honorees will be celebrated during the AJLI Annual Conference in Orlando, Florida, on Thursday, May 29, 2025.
