Mission and Vision

JLNV Mission

The Junior League of Northern Virginia, Inc. (JLNV) is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving the community through effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.

Our Vision

Empowering women to be a driving force to improve our community.

Our Focus

Childhood obesity has broad health consequences for children and families, and affects 1 in 5 children in Northern Virginia. The JLNV prepares children for success by addressing childhood obesity through the promotion of nutrition and physical activity education, which is proven to enrich health, well-being, and academic outcomes. The JLNV is committed to reducing the number of impacted children by empowering families to make healthier choices.

Our Members

More than 400 women in the Northern Virginia area are members of the JLNV. The women share a common desire to drive positive change in the community. In alignment with our mission, the League provides members with training and skills that will enrich their professional and personal lives. Training opportunities include leadership development seminars, workshops, project management opportunities, and “hands-on” experience. Throughout our history, the JLNV has provided over 20,000 service hours toward JLNV programs and initiatives, 800 hours in leadership training, and more than $2.4 million in financial support to the community. Diversity and Inclusion

The JLNV is committed to remaining a diverse and inclusive organization that is welcoming to all women with a passion for voluntarism, and to having a membership that reflects the rich diversity of the communities we serve. Our diversity enables us to more effectively address Northern Virginia’s unique challenges related to homelessness and health and educational disparities spread across a large geographical area and partner with like-minded organizations that share our values. We live by our reaching out statement: The Junior League of Northern Virginia reaches out to women of all races, religions and national origins who demonstrate an interest in and commitment to voluntarism.
