The Junior League of Northern Virginia (JLNV) will celebrate its 60th anniversary with a year of honoring its legacy of promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving communities.  

To kick off the year, JLNV proudly announces its 2017-2018 Board of Directors.

• Treasurer-Elect – Alyscia Eisen of Vienna, Va.
• Parliamentarian – Tarren Smarr of Manassas, Va.
• Community Council Director – Hayley Smith of Arlington, Va.
• Fund Development Council Director – Krysta Jones of Arlington, Va.
• Membership Council Director – Lauren Crowder Heighton of Falls Church, Va.
• Communications Council Director – Anna Bryant of Alexandria, Va.
• Nominating and Placements Director – Monika Geraci of Leesburg, Va.
• Planning Council Director – Shashuana Littlejohn of Alexandria, Va.

This year will mark President Martha Hess’ 16th year in the Junior League, including time in the Junior Leagues of Wilmington, Delaware, and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Prior to becoming President, she served in multiple leadership roles including most recently as Communications Council Director.  She also served in leadership roles within the League’s Fund Development, Finance, Membership and Community Councils. Hess will serve a one-year term as President. Professionally, she is a Senior Business Development manager with Steptoe & Johnson LLP, an international law firm.

Addressing members at the first meeting of the year, Hess said: “This is an exciting time to be part of the Junior League of Northern Virginia as we kick off our Diamond Jubilee celebration – 60 years of service in the Northern Virginia community – and I am honored to have the opportunity to serve as president of the JLNV. This year, a recurring theme throughout all our programs will be sharing our story, a legacy of leadership and community service, as we look at the impact of our current and past community programs and how through our programs and trainings we help to develop the leadership potential of our members.”

The Junior League of Northern Virginia (JLNV) is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. For nearly 60 years, the JLNV has provided hundreds of thousands of volunteer hours and more than $2 million to implement more than 25 community programs in Northern Virginia.
