Active Living

The JLNV’s Physical Activity committee also implements programming to promote physical activity education in the community. We do this in a variety of ways such as our signature Swim Camp, Run Club and participating in local health and wellness fairs.

Swim Camp

The JLNV partners with Bridges to Independence (B2I) to support Swim Camp, an eight-week program that focuses on teaching local children to swim. JLNV volunteers serve as swim “buddies” enabling beginner and intermediate youth swimmers in advancing their swim skills.

Run Club

The JLNV partners with Lorton Community Action Center to support Run Club an eight-week program that focuses on weekly runs and other physical activities. This year’s Run Club theme is “Run Across Virginia.” Each week, JLNV volunteers serve as running buddies and cheerleaders to encourage children to participate in physical activities.

Local Festivals

The JLNV participates in several festivals throughout the year. Our volunteers support a wide variety of activities including sack races, parachutes, hula hoops and relay races. We also have healthy cooking demonstrations for children.
